Howdy, everybody,
I have a need to do an in-circuit dump and reflash of a TSOP56-packaged Cypress/Spansion
S29GL01GS (appears to be a "Type A" parallel NOR). I'm new to this, stumbled upon
@Zeigren's clip adapters, and so have a few (hopefully quick and straightforward) questions:
1) Most critical seems to be that a month ago, the XPORT hardware was given a new revision, and apparently Zeigren's adapters have yet to be updated to work with the XPORT 2.0. I'm assuming that an update to the clip adapters will be "ready when they're ready", and I don't need any of the extra features or updates to the 2.0 board, so...is it still possible to purchase an XPORT 1.0?
1a) A quick Google suggests there is an outfit in Australia (Darkwire) still selling XPORT 1.1 (?!) boards internationally (I'm in the U.S.). Are these 1.1 revisions also compatible with Zeigren's adapters?
1b) Since all mention of & documentation for the XPORT 1.x seems to be gone from Embedded Computers' site, is it even known whether the S29GL01GS is a supported parallel NOR by the XPORT 1.x? That particular Cypress part# is NOT listed on Darkwire's eBay listing, even though it IS listed on EC's site for the XPORT 2.0.
2) Okay, re: the clips themselves... It appears that at the present moment, Zeigren's on-line store is out of stock of the TSOP56 UNI-clip adapter model, so my hand may be forced on this, but...what is everybody's experience when it comes to which clip is the best or most convenient to use? Other than the fact that I'll have to twist the cable, are there any big downsides to using the E3 clip vs. the UNI for this application, and would I be best served to wait for the UNI-clip adapter stock to be refreshed? Or does it not really matter that much / is purely a matter of personal preference?
3) As mentioned in a previous post, the clip adapters do not come with the pin headers soldered on, but it's suggested that one could ask Zeigren to do so before shipping. I don't actually see that he mentions anywhere on his site that this is a service he offers, so...a) is he in fact willing to do this (I'm willing to even pay a little extra / modest fee for the convenience), and b) how do I go about requesting it?
Thanks so much!!
