Bricked sb5100

hi great forum btw
i have a bricked 5100 and tried various combinations of software and fw for rhe bcusb but cant get it to detect the flash, modem lights come on for 3 seconds then go out, i have also tried to short out pins with 3v but still no joy, flashfix also says...Error: Can't connect to Flash (possibly dead).. any help would be great
cheers Mick

Unfortunately the BCUSB has not been a good device for it's debricking feature , I will ask the developer if he can once again look into this feature as i too have issues with it on the latest build. Basically all we need to do is get the old part of the bootloader deleted and the new one installed for it to get a decent flash detection , but the FlashFix() feature still requires more work.
As soon as i get a reply from the developer i will reply here.

Do you only have the bcusb programmer or do you have any other programmers that could assist you in debricking it in the meantime ?

thanks for you swift reply but im beginning to think it could be faulty, i have recieved my blackcat lpt version and have got green lights and working with other software but just wont see my sb4200 and sb5100. boot loader is fine now a flash detected first time but cant get it to see anything with both modems on blackcat usb. also i have tried windows xp 32bit and win vista 64bit and same does not detect my modem. i have also tried the jumper on 3.3v and 5v no joy and unfortunatley i dont have anymore hardware jtagable
cheers Mick

So with blackcat LPT version you get a flash detection ? is this on both the 4200 and 5100 ?
Does BCUSB detect the BCM on both the 4200 and 5100 ? If possable could you add some screenshots of console tab on both devices

here is a pic best i can do at moment but to the left you should see 2 green lights one is solid and the other flashes but i have not tried it with cable line connected but strange thing is haxoware page come up with 192 page but if i do 192.168.1.001:1337 i get sigma page,, wierd . both 4200 and 5100 work with bc lpt but both dont show on bcusb
here is my startup log of bcusb

thanks again for yur help

Seems as if the BCUSB is not even seeing the device at all , is the pin header on the correct way as i know sometimes on the LPT versions the pin header was reversed. What version of Hax are you getting as far as i was aware Hax was only developed for BCM3349 models

sorry i appologise its was 5100mod i used, i turned it round at the modem end i have it sordered which i assume is ok as it works fine with lpt bc, im not sure what else i can try
Mick

Everything points to a connection issue , does your BCUSB work ok on any other ejtag devices ?
Could you post a pic of how you have the bcusb connected to both devices

all i have jtag is the 2 modems, i wouldnt be too bothered but as you know with lpt it take 40mins or so to test more fw as is why i purchesed the bcusb, communication with pc and bcusb is fine or it wouldnt see the board,i would have thought from bcusb to modem would be same as lpt, maybe thats what im doing wrong, it seems a waste of money so far but i will keep trying
cheers Mick

The connection is the same as the pinouts dont differ from LPT to USB , at minimum you should at least see the BCM connection even if the flash was not. Only thing i can offer is to make sure your bcusb lead is on the correct way and then hold the connector on the modem to make sure it is a solid connection .

i will take a picture or 2 tomorrow of the connection and hope you can see a mistake,i was flashing the 4200 with max232 but when i got the usb i decided to solder a 10 pin header and that was when i tried bclpt and worked but not with bcusb
thanks again
Cheers Mick

Should be an easy fix , that is unless the bcusb is faulty , i have had a couple that have died on me, hence the reason i asked if you had any other devices. If it is faulty you should contact the seller as you should have a warranty of some sorts on it.

Once you upload a pic we may have a better understanding.

hope these pics shed sme light on the problem thanks for all your help so far
Cheers Mick

OK the lead in the first pic is the wrong way facing Turn it round as per my pic , more than likely you have it opposite on the 4200 as well

worth a try but i have changed the lead on both modem and bcusb in all combinations and still the same just dont connect to modem also just tried another usb which i know works fine just to eliminate anothe problem out of the equasion
cheers Mick

It has to be changed round just on the modem side due to the fact , that you now have pin1 from the lead onto pin 12 of the modem , so you will not get a detection

had another play with the lead, here is the log, you may notice i have changed fw on bcusb to try different combinations

You will not be able to read/write to the device properly until you get a BCM and flash detection , it seems to be seeing the device in a way but not connecting to it properly , everything still points to a connection issue between jtag and device

I have just bricked a 5100 to show you what reults i get

As you can see there is no Flash detection , but the BCM (CPU ID) is still detected

im baffled, i have checked with multimeter and all connections are good, i have turned round lead on both devices several times and just done the same with my 4200 and still same results but on the 4200 when i change round on modem i get error cant connect or when i swap round i get connected to ,,00 but still not correct connection
