FlashcatUSB Mach1 not detecting S29AL016

First time user here, getting some experience with my new FlashcatUSB Mach1.
The unlucky test subject is a Spansion S29AL016D70TFI01 TSOP48, and using a X8/X16 SDR ASYNC TSOP-48 (NAND) adapter, I'm getting:

"Mode NAND X8 ASYNC returned ident code: 0x8585858585
Connected to Flash (CHIP ID: 0x8585858585)
NAND device failed to load ONFI table
Flash memory detected but not found in Flash library"

How do I set the Mach1 to read in NAND X16 mode, which I think is correct for this chip?

S29AL016D70TFI01 is a NOR FLASH. Not NAND. You need X16 NOR adapter.

Ah, thanks. Explains why there's no mention of ECC in the datasheet (but also no mention of it being NOR). I should have picked up on that...

Some NOR devices do support ECC, its just very rare. Some of the new 2Gbit NOR devices from Winbond have ECC.
