When connected blackcat says not supported...so i went into spi settings changed chip size to 0x160000

when i click main and then detect, blackcat detects flash size memory:1,441,792 bytes

Does the output in console tab not give you any JEDEC ID # ?
If these numbers are not detected then setting the flash in SPI settings will not really work.

nope JEDEC ID# is all 0000s

I do see data however the flashsize is wrong, i haven't tried writing to it, as im not able to make a proper backup. I think it should be a 16Mb flash

What values did you insert into the SPI Settings tab ?

the only thing i changed was changed chip size to 0x160000 basically i can tell it whatever size the chip is and it will read and i see data in blackcat

How are you connecting to this Chip ?
I am trying to contact the developer to see if this chip is in the verified/supported list , but if you get the details from the datasheet you should be able to add the relevant info , allthough i would NOT try to write to it until we can get it detected properly.

i have it wired up as any normal spi flash chip, except with external 5v to pin 2 and the hold is not connected. I already tried 3.3v and connecting the hold. but i get not supported

What device is this Chip connected to as i had a router ages ago , and even when i applied external VCC to the chip it would not detect , but i noticed that it was applying power to the PCB from the external VCC that i used.
Also once you have it connected using 5v ext source , if you click detect a few times does it always give you the same result ( without modifying the SPI Settimgs Tab) ?

its a cable modem an Arris 950, well im using the old PCB that only gives me 3v, i have tried that and i have also tried using the hold as well on the chip with the same results as using external 5v w/wo hold

Try this , i got hold of one of these chips and added it to the code .
