Hello,

The Embedded Computers product page for the FlashcatUSB XPORT states that the Intel 28F016SA parallel NOR flash is supported. However, I am having some trouble reading a 28F016SA flash chip using the FlashCat software. The software reports that the flash was detected, but not found in the flash library:

I am using the TSOP-56 Type B adaptor socket, and there are a few differences in its pinout compared to the E28F016SA pinout in the flash chip datasheet.

Adaptor pinout:

Flash chip pinout:

Note that pins 1, 3, 29, 30, 53, and 56 are different on the chip and adaptor.

I've ordered some new flash chips to try, as the chips I am using were pulled from a scrapped device and might be bad. In the meantime, I have a few questions and would be grateful for any assistance:
  • Do I need to make any configuration changes in order to use the TSOP-56 Type B adaptor with this flash chip?
  • Is there a way to find out whether the Device ID reported by the FlashCat software is the real device ID of the flash chip?
The flash chip datasheet is attached.

Received and tested the new flash chips. The same error messages appear with the new chips, so I don't think this is an issue with the original chips.

The Intel 28F016SA is currently on our list of devices to re-test. This has been confirmed as compatible, but it may not be compatible with the standard TSOP56 TYPE-B socket, but we will see if there is a software/firmware workaround when we receive this chip to test.
